A close match, with both teams using rider replacement. Buxton were missing James Mann, and Kings Lynn, both Peter Boast and Freddie Stephenson, all riders being injured. Darren Groves followed his 19 point haul at Mildenhall last week, with another 15 points tonight. He was on a maximum when pushed very wide on the first turn of his last race, and was never able to make up the lost ground.
There were several close and exciting races, Paul Burnett having a stunning ride in Heat 5, to come from third place to win it. His team mate Neil Painter also snatched third place on the line, to turn a certain 5-1 into a 2-4.
Glen Phillips experience with the IOW team showed, he had a good meeting to score 12 from 6 rides for the Braves. Neil Painter did a great Captains job for the Hitmen, who were always in contention, his tally of 13 from 7 rides, could have been greater if he hadn't been pushed wide in Heat 7 causing him to fall.
Aiden Collins was very unlucky in Heat 10, when his bike gave up on the last lap, as he was challenging Darren Groves for the lead, and in the next Heat 11, Paul Burnett's bike died on the first lap. Heat 14 saw a 5-1 from the Hitmen bring the gap to only 4 points, leaving them needing a 5-1 from the last race to secure a draw. However, Glen Phillips made the gate, and led for all four laps, Darren Groves being pushed almost into the fence on the first turn, thus spoiling his chance of an 18 point maximum.
