The young Newport side took full advantage of the decree that this meeting should be restaged following its earlier abandonment and scored a resounding win to make it through to the Cup Final where they will meet St Austell.
And they achieved victory despite finishing the match with just four riders, having lost the services of reserves Graig Gough and Jamie Holmes. Not that Buxton escaped problems though, for James Mann was injured in the same Heat 4 incident as Holmes and he too, took no further part in the meeting.
The fact that 3 riders were ruled out after just four races led to there being no less than four heats featuring three riders and one with just two!!
Despite heavy overnight rain, the track was in remarkably good condition and the early meeting falls had more to do with youthful exuberance rather than the generous layer of dirt that had been laid down.
Gough fell while lading Heat 2, whilst Holmes brought down Mann on the 3rd bend of Heat 4, and all 3 were advised not to ride by the medical staff.
Buxton had no real answer to Newport's top three of Neath, Appleton and Eldridge and with Aidan Collins only able to take one more ride after a Heat 7 spill, Buxton were up against it in the latter part of the match.
The Newport top three all strolled to paid maximums while new signing Chris Courage weighed in with a useful paid 10 for the Mavericks, who easily compensated for the early loss of their two reserves.
