Buxton were supposed to be away at Rye House but instead held a 4 Team Challenge. Coventry were pre-meeting favourites as they included Hitmen Mark Steel, James Mann and Aiden Collins. Buxton thought they could run them close as their side was Neil Painter, Paul Burnett Adam Allott and Richard Moss.
Cradley took the lead after the first race as experienced Simon Wolstenholme won from Collins but Moss fell at the back to get Buxton off to a bad start.
Belle Vue's Lee Smethills took race 2 and was followed home by Steel after he passed Burnett when the home man went too wide on turn 4. Heat 3 saw the Hitmen get their first race win as Adam Allott had a fairly easy race after a good start.
Cradley's Dean Garrod, borrowed from mildenhall, beat Painter in the next and Coventry got their first win as Mann won Heat 5 from Smethills and Moss, who passed Mitch Barker at the start of the last lap.
Buxton took the lead when Burnett held off Garrod in the first turn while, at the back, Elvis Jones made a mistake to let Dave Hartley through but battled back for third. Painter stretched the lead by winning Heat 8 from Collins to give the Hitmen a 2 point lead over Cradley with Coventry & Belle Vue 3 points further back at the halfway stage.
A win by Steel in the ninth saw Coventry close the gap as Moss fell on the first turn of the last lap while third and the lead was down to one as Collins beat Burnett in race 10. Despite a lot of pressure from James Mann, Adam Allott won the next to regain a 2 point advantage.
Heat 12 saw a good cut back by Painter to come underneath Smethills and Hartley off turn 2 and he went on pressure Wolstenholme who made a mistake and went wide on the last turn to let the Buxton Captain through for the win. With Coventry picking up no points in the previous race, Mann looked to win Heat 13 but Burnett got a good start and won, Buxton were now 6 up with three to go.
Heat 14 saw a battle of the lesser lights of each team and when Moss passed Hartley for the lead, it meant Buxton were home and dry. The final two races were academic as Garrod won Heat 15 from Collins and things were fittingly rounded off as the winning Skipper Painter won the last race from Mars Steel.
